The Black Hair Salon; The birth of lessons, laughter, love and an experience that I believe every woman should take part in. It is not just a place for pampering and enhancing the physical, but it's the hot topics, authenticity and relationships you leave with that make it truly a remarkable moment. Growing up, I was fond of these times; I felt mature in this environment because for once I was able to hear what the grown ladies talked about. My love for magazines came alive at the salon, particularly the hair magazines, showcasing a ton of up-dos, crimped craze and inspiring bold cuts. This was the best way to start your shop experience, because you quickly were inspired for your next hairstyle. These periodicals left me to believe that one day I'd be featured in the centerfolds of those magazines, permed pressed and all. Fantasy? Maybe, but it was in fact my long desire and the number one thing I begged my mother for.
You'd commit your entire day to being at the salon because 3 hours was never enough time to get the job done. Long durations at the salon didn't bother you, because surprisingly enough you looked forward to your return as you made your follow-up appointment. At the salon you could always count on someone to take in orders for food, making it his or her duty to pick up and distribute the food to whomever requested it, can we say SELFLESS! And your shop experience was never complete without the local hustler advertising the latest goods and persuading you to buy a new phone-case or whatever else exclusive merchandise he had. The conversations where informative yet juicy and you'd gossip about Tyrese as if you personally knew him. The shop was filled with centric art, and old school hair books of women of all shades enjoying this exact experience I speak of. These images illustrated women getting their hair done, exchanging dialogue and being pampered by their stylist. These images set the tone for the salon, allowing you to relate with the women illustrated, feeling exactly like them at that exact moment. I loved that feeling and you would too, so if you are in need of a new hair style and some good vibes, skip your appointment at your old salon for once and experience the experience, The Black Hair Salon!
